Fergus Roche organised a recent get-away in Sligo for four days, aimed primarily for Amblers and Grade 4’s. The trip was very well attended and was superbly well organised. The itinerary included a detailed hiking schedule as well as a range of cultural activities including a talk on Yeats, a harp recital and a visit to Lissadell House – to mention but a few. Several Ramblers delivered readings of Yeats poems, including a superb reading by Patrick Gray of The Lake Isle of Innisfree, delivered beside the famous island. Hiking activities included walks to the summits of Benbulbin, Benwiskin, Lough Gill and elements of the Sligo Way, Carrowmore and Knocknarea. The weather was exceptional and the trip was a huge success.
