The motion proposed by the Ramblers for an MI Hillwalking Committee was carried at the MI AGM in the Aherlow House Hotel last night. The motion was supported by the board and Hillwalking features prominently in the new draft Strategic Plan 2018-2021.

The hard work starts now.

Gráinne McLaughlin was also elected to the MI board. Along with Helen Donoghue, we now have two very competent members working to further the interests of hillwalking and hillwalkers at a national level with the representative body for Mountaineering in Ireland.

A big thanks to the members who made the journey to support the motion and the election of Gráinne- John Burke, Geraldine Cleary, Michael O’Neill, Simon Stewart, Brian Carson, Helen O’Donoghue. We  were able to use 7 of our 12 votes.

Also thanks to the Wayfarers who had 8 members in attendance to support the motion.
