A chara,

I’m messaging your group to ask for some help, on behalf of Barretstown Camp, a charity organisation that is running a sponsored walk along the Dublin Mountains Way on Sunday 28th May 2017.

Barretstown is a place of respite in Co. Kildare, for children and their families from all over Ireland, that are living with cancer and serious illness, so that they might have some bright days and memories during their medical hardships.

About Barretstown Children’s Charity

For the last few years, we have run this annual sponsored walk to raise much needed funds to maintain Barretstown’s .
But we are not looking for your money, we are in need of your members’ time and skills to help with the safe passage of the event along the route.

The sponsored walkers begin at Taillight stadium on the morning of 28th May and either walk 24km to 3-Rock or onwards to 42km at Bradys in Shankill.

We need help from various experienced hill-walkers each year to do the following:
We divide the route into many sections and a team of experienced hill-walkers and mountain rangers lead teams of volunteer marshals who are stationed at various points along the way to ensure walkers stay on the correct paths and to liaise with the Dublin Civil Defence, who are on site in case of anyone needing medical attention.
So we are asking if any of your members would be interested in helping as team leaders for a short section of the route, wherever you are most familiar with, and we source the volunteer marshals that make up the team.

Also, Barretstown encourage sponsored walkers to train for this event and as such we were wondering if your group would be interested in including a ‘training walk’ along one section of the route as part of your own schedule of events over the next few months? People will of course be responsible for themselves, but obviously there is a safety benefit to walking in groups and with experienced walkers.

If you think you can assist us with either or both these elements of our event, we would be extremely grateful. Any assistance at all will help and we divide up the route so that no one group has more responsibility than is easily manageable.

I am available to meet to discuss both with you, at your convenience.
I look forward to hearing from you,

Kind regards,

Fiona Killeen
Volunteer Co-Ordinator
