This walk is a serious test of navigational skill as well as stamina. The average time taken to cover the route is 15 hours.

Start: check-in point is at the forest entrance, 2km south of Stone Cross, Grid Ref. (O:073 201). This years new route from the start up to the first mountain, Seahan, on the forthcoming Lug Walk 18th June.

Start

Recommendation

It is preferable that entrants participate as members of a group rather than as individuals, although this is not a condition of entry.

In the interest of protecting the environment, we encourage prospective participants, to avoid the route of the Lug Walk during pre-walk training.

Leaving the Lug Walk

If you are abandoning the walk please only leave at a checkpoint and hand your control card to a steward.   In the event that you abandon the walk and fail to leave the walk at a

checkpoint, and fail to notify checkpoint personnel: you must ring:  the emergency number  01 8378747.

Failure to heed this instruction will result in the Mountain Rescue Team and Gardai being called out on a wasteful and costly search.

Organisers’ Decision is Final

In any matter arising in connection with the walk, the decision of the Irish Ramblers Club is final.

The organisers will not hesitate to cancel the entry of anyone who, in their opinion, is not fit to take part in this walk. Every precaution is taken by the organisers to safeguard participants, but those taking part do so at their own risk.

In the event of extreme weather conditions, the Walk may be terminated at Wicklow Gap, in the interest of safety.

(Please refer to the conditions of entry on the application form)

Accident Procedure

Participants are strongly recommended to carry a First Aid Kit and Whistle - International Distress Signal is six blasts in one minute - pause and repeat.

If you feel unable to continue on the route, or meet with an accident:

you should send word to the stewards at the nearest checkpoint, giving exact details of your location or ring the emergency number 01 8378747.  It is vital that you do not move from this spot until the Rescue Team arrives.  If you see someone in difficulty, make sure that the stewards are notified immediately.

Food and Drink

As the walk will take up to 15 hours to complete, participants should carry sufficient food and water with them.

The organisers will provide liquid refreshments at Sally Gap and Wicklow Gap. Soup and rolls will be provided at the finish.  Water can be replenished at the Gaps.
